Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 July 2025
1. Introduction
Engineer 42 Ltd. (“Engineer 42”, “we”, “our” or “us”) operates an online platform that helps engineers discover, collaborate on and deploy technical solutions and data (the “Platform”). You can access the Platform through our website at engineer42.io and any sub-domains (collectively, the “Site”). Mobile or desktop applications may be launched in future, and this Policy will apply to them as well (each, an “App”).
This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains how we collect, use, disclose and secure information relating to identifiable individuals (“Personal Data”) and non-identifiable data when you
• visit or use the Site or any future App
• create an account
• interact with our content, support channels or marketing, or
• otherwise make use of any service we provide (together with the Platform, the “Services”).
By using the Services you acknowledge you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the Services.
Because we are headquartered in the United Kingdom, we comply with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. If you are in the European Economic Area (“EEA”) or Switzerland, the EU GDPR also applies.
2. Definitions
-
User / you – anyone who visits, registers for or interacts with the Services.
-
Content – materials we make available (text, code snippets, datasets, tutorials and similar).
-
User Content – materials you upload or generate in the Services.
-
Affiliates – our parent or subsidiary companies, contractors and service providers that help us operate the Services.
(“Including” means “including but not limited to.”)
3. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will post the new version on the Site and, for registered Users, notify you by email or in-product message. The revised Policy becomes effective on the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use the Services after that date means you accept the revised Policy.
4. Data We Collect
Personal Data you provide – name, email address, company, role, billing address, payment details (handled by our payment partner), messages you send us and any other information you choose to give us.
Platform usage data – IP address, browser user agent, pages viewed, referring URL, clicks, session duration, search queries, error logs and similar diagnostic data collected automatically via cookies, server logs and analogous technologies.
Device and App data (for future Apps) – device ID, operating-system version, crash reports, coarse location, push-notification tokens and similar information collected by an App with your consent.
Third-party integration data – OAuth profile data from services you choose to connect (for example GitHub or Google), analytics information from Google Analytics or Plausible, payment status from Stripe and comparable data received through integrations.
Aggregated or anonymised data – statistical information that cannot reasonably identify you.
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use first- and third-party cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, understand how the Platform is used and improve performance and security. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; some features may then work imperfectly. See our separate Cookie Notice for details.
6. How and Why We Use Your Data
-
Contractual necessity – to provide, maintain and secure the Services you request, process payments and respond to support enquiries.
-
Legitimate interests – to improve the Services, develop new features, prevent fraud and abuse and send service-related or in-product communications.
-
Consent – to send marketing emails, connect optional third-party integrations and use non-essential cookies.
-
Legal obligation – to comply with tax, accounting or other statutory requirements.
We do not use your Personal Data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
7. When We Share Your Data
We never sell Personal Data. We may share it only:
• with service providers that act as processors (for example AWS for hosting, Stripe for payments, Postmark for email and Intercom for support) and may access data solely to provide their services;
• within the Engineer 42 group to run internal operations;
• in a corporate transaction such as a merger or asset sale, provided the acquiring party agrees to honour this Policy;
• for legal reasons to comply with law, protect rights, investigate misuse or enforce our Terms of Service; and
• with your consent, for example when publishing a testimonial.
8. International Transfers
Engineer 42 hosts production databases and object storage in Amazon Web Services’ eu-west-2 (London) region. AWS may occasionally allow limited access from outside the UK/EEA for maintenance or support. Whenever Personal Data leaves the UK or EEA we rely on the safeguards built into AWS’s Data Processing Addendum, which incorporates the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). If we engage any additional processor in a non-adequate country we will ensure a comparable legal mechanism is in place before the transfer occurs.
9. Security
All traffic between your browser and the Platform is encrypted in transit using HTTPS (TLS). Production data is hosted with reputable cloud-infrastructure providers that supply physical security and baseline network protections. Access to live systems is restricted to a small number of Engineer 42 personnel who require it to operate and support the Services. Despite these safeguards, no internet-based service can ever be guaranteed 100 % secure, so we cannot promise absolute protection of Personal Data and you use the Services at your own risk.
10. Your Choices and Rights
You have the rights to access, rectify, erase and port your Personal Data; to withdraw consent; to object to or restrict processing; and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (for example the UK Information Commissioner’s Office).
11. Data Retention
We keep Personal Data only for as long as necessary to deliver and support the Services or to comply with our legal obligations. Production data is stored on cloud infrastructure that automatically replicates it across multiple availability zones for durability. We may create additional snapshots or exports from time to time (for example before major releases). If you close your account, we will delete or anonymise your Personal Data within a reasonable period unless we are required to keep it for tax, accounting or other legitimate purposes.
By using the Services after 15 July 2025 you agree to this Privacy Policy.
